Dayboarding · 9 AM to 6 PM

You’re at work until six, so someone has to have the day.

Dayboarding here isn’t childcare bolted onto the side of a preschool but one continuous, structured day — taught, fed, rested and supervised throughout — built for households where nobody is free at one in the afternoon.

The actual problem

Preschool ends at one, but your day doesn’t.

A three-hour playgroup works well enough if there is a grandparent at home, or if one parent’s day can bend around a one o’clock pickup, but for a great many families in Talegaon neither is true and the gap ends up filled by a patchwork — a neighbour some days, a maid on others, and leave taken when neither of them works out.

That patchwork is the real problem, being unpredictable for you and unsettling for a small child who ends up with a different adult, a different room and a different lunch every few days.

Dayboarding replaces it with one place, one routine, and one set of people your child already knows — from nine in the morning until six in the evening.

Hour by hour

Nine hours, in blocks.

The sequence below is the shape of every weekday, and while the exact clock times shift a little with the age group, the order they come in stays the same.

  1. Arrival

    Drop off from 9 AM

Bags down, shoes off and a familiar face at the door, with breakfast waiting for Day Care children who arrive early.

  2. Learning

    The teaching block

The academic part of the day happens while children are at their freshest, which means letters, numbers, language and concept work, all within their own programme batch.

  3. Activities

    Making and doing

Art, craft, music, story time and movement, which is invariably the part they describe first when you ask what they did today.

  4. Meals

    Lunch, cooked here

A proper sit-down lunch for everyone, with breakfast in the morning and a snack in the evening on top of that for Day Care children.

  5. Rest

    Quiet time

Lights down and voices down in the air-conditioned room, because a small child who has been up since seven needs the break whether or not they would admit to it.

  6. Play

    Afternoon play

Back up and moving again, indoors while the afternoon is at its hottest and out in the play area once it has eased off.

  7. Care

    Supervised until pickup

The stretch between school ending and your day ending is the whole point of dayboarding, and children spend it occupied and watched rather than parked.

  8. Home

    Pick up by 6 PM

Fed, rested and carrying something worth telling you about on the ride home.

Meals & rest

Three meals and a proper lie-down.

Day Care children eat breakfast, lunch and an evening snack here, all of it cooked and served on site so that nobody is packing a tiffin at seven in the morning, and children in the preschool programmes get lunch.

After lunch the room goes quiet and cool, and rest is a fixed part of the day rather than something that happens only if a child is tired enough to ask for it.

Still deciding

Come at two in the afternoon and see the quiet hour.

Most school visits happen at ten in the morning, when the place is at its liveliest, so if you are seriously weighing up dayboarding, come in the afternoon instead and see what rest time and the long stretch before pickup actually look like.
